A BIG YEAR

If you've been following my work for a while, there's a reasonable chance you know me for exactly one thing, and maybe don’t know that I’ve been pushing multiple projects my whole life. I’ve never sat still.

Maybe you found me through animation when this site was animation training, or the How to Cheat in Maya series. Maybe it was through game development, working on my own projects, or you attended one of my conference talks. It could have been one of the many strange side quests I've found myself on over the years, from music to dance to sports.

What most people don't know about me is that all of those threads never really stopped. They've been quietly converging.

And 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years of my career.

The Return of HOW to Cheat in Maya

One of the projects closest to my heart is finally back.

After more than a decade, I've released the 2026 update of How to Cheat in Maya.

The original book helped thousands of artists learn animation workflows, shortcuts, and production techniques. The industry has changed dramatically since then, but the core challenge remains the same: helping artists spend less time fighting software and more time creating great work.

Updating the book has been both a nostalgic experience and a reminder of how much the animation industry continues to evolve. My very talented colleague Genevieve Freckelton is the co-author, and I thank her for her amazing work and for initiating this update.

November Games

My studio, November Games, has several projects moving toward release this year.

Game development remains one of the most challenging creative disciplines I've ever worked in. It demands the storytelling of film, the technical rigor of software engineering, the design thinking of product development, and the patience of a marathon runner.

We're in development on two games that come at the perfect time for our studio and audiences.

FarmZ is a rogue-like farming simulator by day, and wave shooter / tower defense by night. Grow your guns, tend your crops, defend your farm!

Fish, Drink, Fight! - In this co-op multiplayer game, you play as a band of Vikings shipwrecked on a strange island. Fish your food, brew special ales, and construct a pyre to Odin that grants you entrance to Valhalla, before hordes of enemies overrun your party! It’s a riot, and we can’t wait to show you more.

More details on those projects will be coming throughout the year.

Only.Games

For the last several years I've been hard at work developing a platform called Echelon.

What started as an attempt to help game developers, streamers, and brands work together more effectively in streaming eventually led to a much larger realization: many of the assumptions underlying modern livestreaming are fundamentally broken. Ads are killing the experience. Streamers are tired of grinding and seeing no growth. And being a gamer is STILL not a viable career path in 2026, even when there is more interest than ever.

That realization has evolved into a new project called Only.Games.

Only.Games isn't just another streaming website. The goal is to rethink the relationship between creators, viewers, developers, communities, and advertisers from first principles.

The technology and systems originally developed for Echelon form the DNA of the platform, but the ambition is much larger. We're exploring entirely new approaches to discovery, engagement, rewards, sponsorship, and audience growth that simply don't exist on today's streaming platforms.

It's still early, but it is one of the most ambitious things I've ever worked on.

Building at the Intersection

When people ask what I do, I've never had a particularly simple answer.

Animator.

Author.

Teacher.

Game developer.

Technologist.

Entrepreneur.

The truth is that I've always been interested in the space between disciplines. The most exciting opportunities often appear where industries overlap and where assumptions haven't yet solidified into rules.

That's where I intend to keep building.

The future is moving quickly, and for the first time in a long time, many of the things I've been building in parallel are beginning to emerge at once.

I'm excited to finally show you what we've been working on.
